Above Water was created in response to an increasing concern over the pressures on girls and women in the 21st Century. The pressure and expectation to 'have it all': the career, the body, the partner, the social life, the wardrobe, the children, the house, the holidays. The pressure which can lead many women to feel as if they are on a continuous treadmill, surviving with their heads just above water, rather than living life to the full. We want to help change this.
We create intelligent and inspiring content on the issues that matter, issues that have impact; from business to wellbeing, from the environment to education, from sport to politics. We're not afraid to challenge our perceptions and we refuse to be defined by what we look like. We realise that the definition of 'success' is different for each and every one of us and so too are our ambitions, fears and insecurities. Ultimately we are a destination where women focus on what's important: building relationships, developing ideas and realising their full potential together.
We believe in the value of experiences over things. From our pop up Events to our Wild Adventures, we are creating an inspiring and responsible Community who want to challenge 21st Century attitudes of girls and women, live more openly, adventurously and believe in creating a positive impact for future generations. Whilst we realise that much of this platform is geared towards women, we not only hope but also believe it's important that men are part of this too.
Behind Above Water is the underlying mission to create a change in culture not only for ourselves but also for The Future Generation. A culture in which our children will earn the same pay regardless of sex, a culture in which our children will look to themselves for self-confidence not to social media; a culture in which our children will aspire to be independent, active and inclusive thinkers. A culture in which we all realise that life is about more than just keeping your head above water.
